Tutorial for x-terminal for Development Stuffs

Hi! I was wondering if there is a tutorial to familiarize with the x-terminal or development stuffs for non-tech N900 users?

I'm not expecting sandbox environment, but just some background on getting started with applications in development level. Thanks.

:)

Note that the above URL says: "NO ARTICLES THAT REQUIRE TERMINAL USAGE ARE ALLOWED IN THIS CATEGORY", so I guess that new users aren't allowed to learn to use the terminal, and the Power Users page assumes terminal knowledge.

However, there are decades worth of UNIX command line documentation in books and on the web. What is wonderful about the UNIX command line is that most of the commands from 30 years ago still work and are still useful today.

Thanks J.s

I'll definitely check it out! I'm looking for something like x-terminal 101 or dummies for x-terminal level.

By the way, any caution to note (besides please backup everything) before taking that one giant step for my N900?

Anything I should look out for (eg. if it blinks 3 times, throw the phone away?)

Or any, don't ever do these...

[Edit to add]:

Any terminology to start with?

xterm is just a terminal emulator.
You'll want to learn ASH or BASH. It's linux so you could just install it on your computer or in a virtual machine and play around with it there if you're worried about harming your phone.

I just learned something today, though I've been using term for years.

I was wishing for a summary of how to use apt-get, one of the most useful commands.

I typed apt-get help and got great help! This surprised me since man commands aren't available.

Code:

apt-get install easy-deb-chroot
sudo debian man apt-get

One thing bothers me is why there isn't any "man" command in n900's xterminal it is useful for newbies.

I know yum well, and know what it can do and what to ask apt to do, so that URI is good reference manual for me and works better than man page.
