Which region or country are you located in? If you're lucky enough to be in the right countries, you might be able to get Nokia or a repair outlet for them to fix it for you. Are you within the warranty period?

If you can convince Nokia that it was caused by general usage, then they may repair it for free (provided you are still covered by the warranty). But as you know the manufacturers guarantee does not cover accidental damage.

In this case you may have to take it to a local professional. :(

EDIT: Sorry, did not see your last post

You can't ask us to tell you what part is broken. It needs to be opened and examined by someone familiar with how things should look. The only thing an online forum can do for you is keep guessing without helping you. Please take your device to get serviced or else contact Nokia and pray that they will assist you instead of trying to sell you a new one at higher-than-retail cost like they did to me. :)

Re: n900 thinks keyboard is closed

I'd load up Health Check and see what it's reporting. The drop test may be a detect on the power button or the slide-lock button. I'd bet that the alignment in the rail sensors is off just a hair now and it's not picking up the magnet. (The rail detects are magnetic, which is why a magnet positioned just right can cause the device to unlock.)

It could also be something as simple as a connector being jarred slightly out of place. If you're comfortable opening it up (apparently you are), I'd say open it and poke around. If it's just a loose connector, the act of opening it and putting it back together could fix it.

so if its the magnetic rail
buying a new one should solve the problem?

EDIT:
at least can someone send me a picture of the magnet
and the magnet sensor?

Just for a temporary fix, does anyone know what software command is executed when the phone is slid open/closed.

If so, maybe you could make a simple dbus script to tell the phone when you want it open and when you want it closed

Just a thought, I wouldn't know where to begin
