n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
i overclocked my n900 using this guide
http://thehandheldblog.com/2010/07/2...r-two-minutes/ but i cant find any considerable improvement in speed inspite of running it at 1000mhz.pls can someone help |
Re: n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
It doesn't do any miracles. But it should make it overall more responsive.
(for switching between tasks, web browsing, drnoksnes games etc) Are you sure it has been overclocked properly? 1. launch xterminal 2. root 3. kernel-config show Then check the min and max frequency values that it is currently using. |
Re: n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
i saw it in conky it shows frequency as 250mhz

Re: n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
after running above command i get min freq-125 and max freq-1000

Re: n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
One thing to remember is that overclocking isn't some magical fix. It can only do so much before the N900's other hardware becomes the limiting factor. There's also a bunch of system parameter optimizations which would effect your UI and visible speed/responsiveness more than the simple increase in clock speed, at least in cases where slowness wasn't due to processor speed in the first place, but was instead a RAM or Swap slowness problem, or whatever else.

Re: n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
As root, you could try entering
kernel-config limits 900 900 and see if that makes the difference more obvious. |
Re: n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
up the min. overclock from 250 (or 125) to 500mhz

Re: n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
Don't fix your cpu at 900 with limits of 900 900, it will overheat potentially.
Moving the lower limit to 500 is a great idea though. What power voltage levels do you have set? the kernel-config show command will show you. I'm running: FREQS="250:30,180 500:30,180 600:38,400 750:45,500 950:54,500 1000:60,500 1100:72,520 1150:72,520" therefore voltage of 30 for 500mhz If you're after speed, load swappolube and apply its proposed settings, even consider setting swappiness to 10. Make sure you're running the PR1.3 firmware and ifs its a used n900 reflash all of it, you don't know whats been messed with. Transitions is another area to look at, the n900 naturally 'wastes' cpu doing flashy zoom and fade effects you don't need. not sure what current situation is with tweaking transitions but its worth doing. merry christmas cheers, Dave |
Re: n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
Try playing a flash video on youtube without overclocking, then overclock and play it again.
Massive improvement :) |
Re: n900 overclocked but no speed improvement
Overclocking alone doesn't work what u need is to fine tune some kernel parameters. There are plenty of scripts, but u can try my collection if u want:
