:O Youtube HD is working on my phone 1080p :D

I'm still trying to work out how it happened. Youtube now seems to be showing be 240p 360p 720p and 1080p.
obviously 1080p only gives sound not video, videos is like 0.5fps :D
720p is like 1fps
480p is quite gittery. 4fps
360p runs silky smooth. (amazing quality) tested and only works when the phone is running @ 1.15ghz
240p works @ any speed and the quality is sh*t

from the last two screenshots, you can see the difference in quality! one is 240p and the other is 360p
and it's working in normal maemo browser :D

edit: don't know why it's showing the screenshots of diffferent sizes?

Isn't it a Flash Plugin problem?
I wonder if the N900 can play youtube smoothly at 1080p but...
the screen is still 800x480!

Are you viewing the videos over a good Wi-Fi connection that's connected to a decent broadband service or just 3 or 3.5G

I've been viewing 480p & 720p .flv videos through KMPlayer for a while now, and yes it is pretty impressive to not see the little artifacts associated with earlier and lesser devices.

8mb wifi connection.. but 480p is quite gittery... 360p is silky smooth in browser. there are no artifacts what so ever even at 720p there are no artifacts. just slow. but the sound is fine.

it's described in these two threads how to do that:
Youtube Desktop Version
Video quality on Youtube with N900

basically, you just need to edit your user-agent.

Well, like you said... the screen is only 800x480... so the best screen resolution to play on the N900 is clearly 800x480. That said, 800(h) by 480(v) means you best play vids that "fit" into these dimensions. In the N900 case, 480p would be the best. If that is not available, go for the closes lower resolution. In the original poster's case, 360p. 1080p is usually 1920x1080 and to fit that into the N900, the program has to "scale down" (ie. unnecessary work, albeit the slowdowns mentioned) and should just use something close to native screen resolution (800x480).

Anything higher or lower resolution and you will lose detail due to the source or screen limitations. So the best would be 360p. I hope I understand your question and explained it correctly. :p
