migration from PalmOS to nokia 770 or n800?
Hi! I was wondering, I'm a PalmOS user thinking about migrating to the nokia internet tablet, I basically use the address book, and memo on the Palm (AddressDB.pdb & MemoDB.pdb files)...is there any way to migrate the info to any available PIM on the nokia internet tablet without having to enter the info manually all over again?
Thanks! :) |

Theare is not full analog Palm Adressbook on Nokia N800. The having PIM is very simple. Becase I use nuw 2 device: Treo 650 & Nokia N800 :-)

I would say, stick with PalmOS devices if you are used to it. You will not feel the ease of use and simplicity if you shift to n800 or n770.

Re: migration from PalmOS to nokia 770 or n800?
I'm still using my Tungsten T3 for contacts, todo-list, calendar and even memos. I could probably use the N800 for memos, it's just a way of writing notes after all (and when I get my BT keyboard I'll probably do just that), but in my opinion the PalmOS versions of the three first PIM apps are much better than e.g. the GPE equivalents.
But I use the N800 for everything else! :D EDIT: However, if you do plan to migrate (which was you real question after all), then you can export the PalmOS contacts (AddressDB.pdb) in vcard format (just send it as bluetooth or infrared to some computer, I sent it through BT to my laptop). Now, if the vcard file can be properly imported into the N800 contacts database, that's the question.. I'm not certain about that. Or any of the other 3party contacts applications. In any case it's often necessary to massage the vcard file a bit, and I'm also worried about Nokia and the 'only one entry allowed in vcard file' syndrome (e.g. as in all their phones). How to export memos I'm not sure, I haven't ever done that. Must be possible though. |
Re: migration from PalmOS to nokia 770 or n800?
When I sync my Palm (on Linux [Gnome/Ubuntu]) I get a memo_file folder in my home directory with all my memos saved as text files. The addresses can be synced into Evolution/EDS, and from there, you'd have to figure out how to sync them into probably GPE Contacts (the built-in contacts applet is pretty basic and mostly meant for google talk, it seems) - I haven't figured out this last step yet.
