Disable Cellular Calling and SMS

Hi,

I'm thinking of putting a SIM card in my N900 which is on a data only plan since I get 1 GB for £5 every month here which is a bargain and I think it'd do for all the calling (via SIP), texting (via XMPP) and other Internet activities.

So... As I understand it the Cellular Calling and SMS functionalities are 2 modules of the Telepathy framework. Is it therefore possible to disable both modules of Telepathy so the "Conversations" program no longer allows SMS and the "Phone" program no longer allows Cellular calling?

I obviously want to retain the ability to use the phones general cellular capabilities for GPRS/WCDMA/HSDPA connectivity purposes. And I obviously need to retain the "Conversations" program for managing my non-SMS conversations and the "Phone" program for calls via Skype and SIP.

I can't seem to disable either SMS or Calling functionality at the carrier level and since this SIM is on a data only plan it's not great prices for either - so disabling these in the phone would be a most handy reminder for me to not use them.

Thanks folks! :)

Steven

this had been my first idea too... BUT if you put your N900 into "Tablet Mode" only WiFi is working. That means the cell-modem is completely turned off....

As far as I know there is no way ATM to turn off calling and SMS and keep data-capabillities.

change the sms service number in settings, bye bye sms. also rather than disable it, why not do a custom operator logo with a massive DONT CALL ANYONE!!! ?

or a specific desktop page for use with this sim, just the functions you need on it, no phone etc, and you convince urself to think twice if ur on this desktop?

If I do that both the Wi-Fi and Cellular abilities are disabled and I want neither disabled... wrong result.

If I do this then the numbers won't be available Skype and SIP calling... wrong result.

I still want to call people, the public phone thing isn't needed... I have great mobile internet coverage pretty much anywhere so I can still make calls.

I'm told I should be looking at the telepathy-ring module to do this, any thoughts on the telepathy side of things to get this achieved?

mv /usr/lib/csd/plugins/libcsd-call.so /usr/lib/csd/plugins/libcsd-call.so_disabled

might be worth a try

OK, I thought about Skype to Skype calling not Skype to mobile or landline... (or any other VOIP with doesn't use "ordinary" phonenumbers)
