Any panorama app that could pan sideways while phone being held upright

Whoah thats a weird title.

Ive been testing different apps with my N900 and so far the best is nokia panorama but I still havent found any app that would let me hold the phone in upright position and pan sideways, that would allow me to take some nice resolution panoramas. Is there any apps that can do this? Or anybody who is interested of making one?

I'm interested in using such an application, too (panorama in both dimensions), but I don't have a clue how Nokia managed to make stitch-less result, not to mention how it determines relative position of individual shots.
If only Nokia Panorama was open source...?

Guys, just crop the panaromic picture when it's done.

Reminds me of a story of a truck driver who despairs when he tried to change a flat tire and accidentally dropped all 4 bolts in the drain. While he was lamenting how the perishable cargo will stale if he didn't get the truck moving, a person walking by just recommended him, why not take 1 bolt from each tire and fix the replacement tire until he reaches a workshop???

Think out of the BOX guys! (or in this case, think out of the brick)
:D

The old version of QuickPanorama was able to do this, the newer one works horizontally only. Find the old version ;)

What does cropping help here? I want higher resolution panoramas by taking them while holding phone straight

Another technique possible: instead of taking many photographs and getting stitches between some of them, just make long narrow slit of a camera with help of software and blindly append new strips every 10ms. It will not be ideal, but it will be difficult for critics to guess how you made it. Works best with N900 moving with constant speed on a rail.

Good idea, thank god I always have a huge rail with me everywhere to help with the sudden panorama ideas :)
