New NES emulator designed for ARM!
The pocketnester is about 3~4 times faster than original nesterce and many other NES emulators on Pocket PC. Most games run at about 30~50 FPS on a 200 MHz XScale device. That means you can get full speed emulation (60 FPS) with 206 MHz StrongARM/400 MHz XScale Pocket PCs." Now we just need someone to compile it! Here is the source! |
Re: New NES emulator designed for ARM!
Well, I did look at the source, and unfortunately, I don't have a clue about how to convert this project (looks like it's set up for WinCE?) to something the maemo environment and gcc would know what to do with. If anyone has some pointers, I'll try my hand at it.

Re: New NES emulator designed for ARM!
Ya that would pose a problem since I'm guessing a lot of library files are compeletely different that what is needed for linux.
One is best off using a linux based version of an NES emulator and trying to work with that. I've compiled zsnes on my debian linux machine, but I don't have the experience in working with compiling apps on the Nokia ITs. |
Re: New NES emulator designed for ARM!
Also, looking at the source, this hasn't been changed since 2003. Looks dead, but again, if anyone has ideas, I'll try to pursue them.

Re: New NES emulator designed for ARM!
The happy source for emus is the gp2x world.
Runs linux - similar cpu. http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/GPFCE http://www.unicorn-jockey.com/news.html there's also a fishynes which might be faster. Tak's FCEU is good but there's a sound stuttering problem |

Re: New NES emulator designed for ARM!
People also might want to look into the Palm OS ARM emulator Little-John, which is all opensource, and runs NES, Genesis, SNES, Gameboy, etc, which works pretty well with small amounts of frameskip on the 312 mHz Treo OMAP processor.

Re: New NES emulator designed for ARM!
LittleJohn is amazing - runs fast on the gp32 which iirc was 66mhz ARM9 cpu.
That version is also linux based, so an easier port than the PALM. For my time, Super Nintendo is more worthwhile (to port and play). |
