Is there any app that notify me when my friends come online . ( i mean coming online on a voip service like skype)

You can put a contact shortcut on your desktop. The availability
icon on the contact shortcut should change when the
friend goes online.

U mean that i should put all of my friend's contact shortcut on my desk top? Isnt it better that an app notify u by sound and a notification like that thing when an email arrives ? is there some thing or any under construction app?

No, I just wanted to be sure you didnt missed this option.
How can I know how many friends you have or that you
wanted to know the status for all of them.

Sure, it would be better. I don't know if there is an application. I do
remember that some users here already requested
an application for this.

I can take a look on how easy or difficult it is. Maybe a
statusbar plugin...

I got a first prototype working.
For some reasons, listening on status updates stops after
the user starts and stops a conversation with this contact.
When I can solve this issue I can make a package for extras-devel.

That was more challenging than I thought. It took long time to figure out
why status updates aren't recognized anymore, after you recieved a
message from one contact.
(The rtcom-notification-ui statusbar plugin caused this).
It took long time to find out what happend exactly (The rtcom-notification-ui is closed source).
It took again long time to find out how to prevent this behavrior.

But finally it is working now. More work is to be done, as I don't have many
online contacts, I need some feedback from you.
What statusupdate you would like to see. Message about

-users going online?
-change statusmessage?
-go offline?

At the moment the notification shows this yellow bubble when a user changes the status.
I configured the notification to autodisappear after six seconds, that way it doesn't show the yellow
notification window in the task switcher view. I don't think we need this window, as long as
we only want to see this yellow bubble.

Vibration and/or Led-notification support?
What to do when the screen is blanked, turn on the display or skip
the notification?

this would be very usefull! But i think that just a popup is enaugh. When you let vibrate the phone you dint know or ur getting a message or its just a contact comming online.

bur vibration could be still an option...

Should be great if all those options can be set in a settings window! Looking forward to this app / plugin! :)
