Wifi-Switcher little mods...

2 Attachment(s)
I've modified Wifi-Switcher a bit:

Popup mod: the notification popup doesn't need the tap to disappear anymore

Status area button mod: now it has two icons (enabled/disabled), title has changed from "Wifi Switcher" to "Wi-Fi Switcher" and I've also added a description text sayng if WiFi is enabled or not.

Startup mod: check if WiFi interface is enabled at startup. Useful if you don't activate WiFi interface when Maemo boots.

Installed update,
looks very good, now wifi-switcher looks "finished"
But after install i also get a "update" from app. manger for wifiswitcher.
So could the mods-update be placed in the repo?

Thanks anyway for your good work!

Gr8 job!

How fast does the notification pop-up appear and disappear? For comparison purposes check the SSH status applet, when you toggle between on/off, the notification SSH Started/SSH Stopped is almost instant. Would love that with the wifi switcher.

Hi, could you just attach those files here instead going to megaupload or similar uploading sites?

or make a fork of the existing one with different name, so there won't be any confusion between the original one and yours, and you can upload yours on the extras-devel. just a thought. well if you can contact the original author to implement your mod, that'd be even better

Anyway, thanks for the great work ;)

I will ask Wifi Switcher author to include my mods into the official package. Until then, as a temporary solution for app. manager problem, you can pin wifi-switcher:
  • open xterm
  • become root ("root" or "sudo gainroot")
  • open /etc/apt/preferences with a text editor (for example, "leafpad /etc/apt/preferences")
  • add the following text to the file:
Package: wifi-switcher
Pin: release a=unstable
Pin-Priority: 1001
WARNING: this will prevent apt from replacing or updating wifi-switcher, you won't be able to update the package anymore unless you remove the pin.

Wow, I installed it and it works perfectly. Nice.. Thanks a lot

However, from what I quoted above, I assume that it'll now store the last state and restore it on startup, am I wrong? Since the wi-fi still enabled on device startup even though I've disabled it before powering off

No, it doesn't store the last state, it only makes a check if wlan interface is active or not when the system starts. I made this change because I've edited wlancond in order to prevent wlan interface from turning on at startup (see this, Wi-fi modules autoloading).

If you want I can add state saving, no problem at all :)
