[Request] desktopstream via bluetooth

Hello,

since years i use an app called control_freak (look at www.mtvoid.com for screenshots) as a remote control for my pc. this ap exists only for symbian s60 1st and 2nd edition and then the developers stopped porting it to the other versions.

My biggest wish is to have this app (or something like it) for my future meego device, so am searching for people who can program something like this.

What this app do:

- connecting to your pc via bluetooth (less power usage then via wifi, but at the beginning via wifi would be "ok")
- streaming your pc desktop in fullscreen (5fps would be enough, i just want to check my desktop without turning the monitor on)
- controlling mouse and keyboard (arrow keys and text input)

i can give you more details of my wishes, but first i am searching for someone who is able to program something like this...

do i have luck here?

You can do everything through wifi with a linux desktop and:
  • ssh server on desktop pc to connect from n900 whenever you wish without having to give conferm on pc. You get full command line to launch all scripts you need.
  • Presence vnc for getting the desktop on n900 or any other vnc app. You can use mouse and keyboard aswell.
  • setup a vpn so you can access your pc from every place where you get internet. It's also secure since it uses ssh connection aswell.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

i know about the possibilitys with vnc, but my main problem for vnc is that it uses an internet connection. I dont have a full flatrate for my mobile so i have to watch my download volumen. via bluetooth i dont need to use the internet connection, and the power consumption is better too.

so i think we (or only I) really need an alternative app for vnc, that dont uses an internet connection, and bluetooth would fit my needs ;)

*edit*
i was speeking with someone from forum meego.com (http://forum.meego.com/showthread.php?t=2255) who wanted to create this app (in the beginning via wifi, then via bluetooth), but in the past few weeks i heard nothing from him so it could take a very long time untill he gets the stream working

the connection via wifi would be ok for the beginning, as long as i can use the internal ip of my pc to connect to it.

you start your ssh session with -x . so you get the visual output of your command on yor n900 (e.g.file manager). Don' t know if this works with Windows too. this way i am doing file operations on my desktop.

i dont need file operations, i want to see what is going on on my desktop (e.g. is the download finished, a.s.o.) and I want to control the media player (e.g. vlc) on my windows pc.

my situation is that i often sit on my couch and watch a movie on the tv, which is connected to the pc. and while watching i would like to control the media player (vlc, winamp, doesnt matter) with the mouse and/or the arrows. and all this WITHOUT using an internet connection.

i hope you understand my needs ;)

Vnc doesn't use an internet connection, it uses a wlan network. In fact you connect to your pc using an ip like 192.168.1.x and doesn't require an internet connection.
To make an app using wifi you (in general) need to use a socket udp or tcp connection over a lan network: when you're connected to your home router, which provides both access to internet and a wlan network, you're only using wifi and not an internet connection. Try again with a vnc client over wifi.
Also, bluetooth range is really short (the old one which n900 has, not the new 2.0 or whatever it is).

last time i used vnc it was incredible slow and didnt worked really good. but i will give it a try...

which vnc do you use for this? is there any good vnc server for windows (on n900 i would use the normal vnc client in the repositorys, if you dont know a better one)

I use UltraVNC on windows and presenceVNC on maemo.
