The future?
Hi!
What will be the future? The N900 was the last device with Maemo. I think, there will be no more OS updates provided by Nokia, maybe there are some community updates. Which way will you go? Do you go the Meego way, or do you follow the mainstream to Android? Or anything else? I never tested Android, but I think, as a Debian lover, I wouldn't like it. I don't like all this Java stuff. The time will come, the N900 becomes an old device. |
Re: The future?
MeeGo was kinda, sorta Maemo 6.
I'm going to stay with my N900, but get another phone and most likely a HTC Desire (HD). I don't like Android - it's far too constricted for me - after having Maemo and doing what I want, WHEN I want.. Damn! I LOVE MAEMO! I may flow on to Meego if it's fully open source and all the N900 dev's and Maemo members flow over to it as well. If not, I'll drop Nokia support. |
Re: The future?
I will switch to MeeGo when it becomes ready.

Re: The future?
i like maemo, so unless meego is very good and has all the things i love in maemo i will wait for when the N9 will be modded to dual boot to maemo or only maemo, again that is if meego is not what im looking for.
i really think that maemo is great and what makes the N900 really great. And lets not forget this collection of bright people on this forum, i have not in my time seen so much help, respect and openness to other devices, not like an apple forum where everybody is really hoping that they can attach some part so they can finally have s*x with it :D |

So, in short, as long as I can find a device that runs Linux, I'll go with that. :) |
Re: The future?
I wanted to buy a HTC Desire Z, but when I realized how closed Android really is I went for the N900. There's no way for me to switch to Android.
I have no problem with using a system for nearly a decade. The only thing that concerns me is that Maemo might become more and more vulnerable to security problems as time goes by. I like the freedom and technical details of Debian. So I like most parts of Maemo, but I'd prefer a totally free (as in free speech) OS. |
