The case of the missing N900 accelerometer and internal hardware GPS

I've been trying to solve this problem for over a week now with no success. There are two basic issues :

1) Missing accelerometer device

The above can be remedied by issuing a

Code:

[1|user@Nokia-N900|~]sudo rmmod lis302dl
[1|user@Nokia-N900|~]sudo modprobe lis302dl

in an X-term on my N900, but it has to be done after *each reboot*.

2) Missing GPS and missing GPS icon in status area even though it's enabled

To "solve" the above problem I have to launch an app which uses the GPS such as Mappero, then the icon re-appears in the status area and I have full GPS functionality but when I close the app the GPS icon disappears. As far as I can tell location-proxy is running.

See my previous post here for more information.

Does anyone know what's going on or how to fix this situation?

Thanks,

jdb2

As far as I know, this is the normal behaviour. The icon is only visible if the GPS is switched on or if a location is being queried.

Ah, you're right. I remember now that I had "Google Latitude and Buzz" running in daemon mode.

Thanks for the clarification. :)

Edit : By "switched on" I take it you mean more than just "Enabled" in "Settings"
