The MSM8660 and Adreno 220

Now this is how you do a tech demo:

Here's the video directly:

Quite impressive!

And it was able to push 3D to a 55 inch TV... pretty sweet

Looks like you can buy a developer handset for $995 USD... why are these developer platforms always so damn expensive?

You can do them cheap. Look up the Pandaboard, Beagleboard, even the Siemens-Ericsson A9500 has a $200 (or $300) platform on the way called "Snowball." But at the same time there's also the OMAP4 Blaze platform, which is $1k+.

I imagine there could be one for Qualcomm, but haven't seen anything. And considering Qualcomm, quite frankly, I think they'd be repulsed at the notion of "working with the community."

I would have loved to see this demo in stereoscopic 3D!

It seems that NVidia is going to have quite a fight on its hands. The Tegra2 looks suddenly less special.

Re: Snapdragon MSM8660 - Adreno 220

I'm *just* noticing that the video is available in 1080p. If this chip is pushing 1080p resolution at those framerates, then that is incredibly impressive. If it's doing it in stereo, then I'm thoroughly flabbergasted.

Does anyone know if this will find its way into consumer devices this year?

This is now the my most anticipated SoC/GPU combo.

Here's actual gameplay of Desert Winds.

The framerate doesn't look nearly as impressive as the 1080p demo, and this is on a handset

Still good looking, though! I have large expectations for the Adreno 220.

Interestingly, the video flashed 'multithread mode' which may be showing the performance differences when running on more than one scorpion core. Weird.

Well, well. No sooner that I posted that link and it seems the 'HTC Shooter' may be totting an Adreno 220 GPU!

The article speculates that this could be the EVO 3D...

Yeah, without the 1080p resolution the demo does suffer a bit. Now if this were a tablet with a 1920 x 1080 display (and if such a thing existed, dammit) ....mmmmmm. Not sure why the framerate looks so jerky though?

Oh well, prototypes often have little to nothing to do with what will ultimately be available for sale.
