Help! Wife accidently dumps N900 in sink
Don't ask me why I left my phone in the kitchen, but I did and somehow it ended up in a sink full of water.
So, I spent a lot of time drying it out, opening and closing the keyboard to try to get the water from behind there. After I felt comfortable with that, I put the battery back in and booted it back up. It seemed to boot fine, but the touch screen behaved erratically, with it having problems identifying touch on the right side of the screen. Then the screen would go on and off. Now, I can't seem to boot the phone at all. Do I now own a $300 paperweight, or is there some way I can salvage this. If not, do you think SquareTrade will honor the extended warranty on this? |
Re: Help! Wife accidently dumps N900 in sink
If you're not comfortable disassembling it, the trick I have heard used often is to place it in a tupperware container full of dry rice. The rice will absorb the water from the phone. Leave it in the rice for 24 hours.
And never put the battery back in until your sure its completely dried out. |
Re: Help! Wife accidently dumps N900 in sink
No mate! Do not put the battery back into a phone that was immerse into water and boot it up! How long did you spent drying the phone? You probably shorted a circuit.....I think that`s the end of it`s life.....You could put it in a bowl full of rice for couple of days before putting the battery back but now it`s too late :(
If you know somebody that is comfortable to dissasemble the phone and replace the required parts go for it. |

Re: Help! Wife accidently dumps N900 in sink
if you don't have a bowl of rice, i suggest a drawer or cupboard, leave it for 48hours+ without the battery in. LET IT DRY NATURALLY! If you try to quicken the process with something like a hair dryer, you will only cause your screen to stop working altogether.

Well, he did say that he tried it a few times before it finally dried out and worked, so maybe I'm not screwed. I'll try the rice method.

Get this
http://www.damprid.com/index2701.html and put your n900 and this in a big Ziploc for one night. It will be up and running in no time. Make sure your phone is switched off with battery out. I have 100% success rate with this method for reviving wet cell phones. |
