Diff b/w 3G speeds on N900 and Laptop
 

Hi Guys,

I am using a 3g data plan on my n900 and off late I am consistently facing a weird issue which i dont understand

I am connected to Internet from my mobile as well as hooked my laptop to n900 and connected to internet via pc-suite in my laptop using the same 3g connection on n900.

The download speeds b/w n900 and laptop varies too much.

Speedtest.net from n900 shows 40kbps!!! whereas from my laptop it shows 1.9 mbps..To cross check i downloaded an app from FASTER APPLICATION MANAGER and still i see 40kbps download speeds..

Did anyone face similar issue..is this something to do with the network provider..> I am using Airtel 3G.

Please help me trouble shoot the issue..

which mode is selected in Settings->Phone->Network Mode ?

The selected mode is 3G. I am using the status menu applet to switch b/w 3G and GSM.. When I am connected to the Internet i see the status bar showing 3.5G but still the speed is pathetic..

speed on mine is great, over 700kbyte/sec on 3.5G (t-mobile usa). Roughly 6 megabit or so. When I use mobile hotspot the laptop gets same kind of speeds via the N900

mine is giving 5.06 Mbps roughly around 650 KBps. Am on TaTa Docomo 3G.
If u using Speedy to test ur 3G speed on N900. Please don't trust what it shows.It doesn't show anywhere near the true speed.
Also speedtest.net now doesn't opens with N900.Only via Pc.

Try google >cnet speedtest via N900 Although its also not quite good but it works

thanks for the suggestion :) .. as mentioned above to cross check i downloaded some random app from FASTER APPLICATON MANAGER...the speed in FAM did not cross 40 kbps... :(

download axel and try downloading any direct link file via it. It will tell you how much download speed can ur n900 get.
And also apt-get(the way package n900 download) is slow.for me it sometimes as low as 1.2kbps.
It's the 3G latency problem +apt-get+repository(sometimes) problem and not your 3G speed most of times.

though I'm not using 3g,I can use speedtest.net in N900

It's not working anymore on N900 since last week.
