Nethack doesn't run?
 

Has anyone been able to get NetHack to run on their "new" 770 from Woot? I have two and they both do the same thing - it installed fine but when you click on its menu icon nothing happens at all! :(

nethack on the 770 seems to be work in progress.

couple days ago I installed it and it started up fine; but as soon as I choose a character type/etc. it just died. have not yet checked logs for why that may be.

but just now I tried it and worked 100%. possibly some recent update with the application manager, or possibly the presence of some dependencies I'd installed for other applications?

That's where I got mine from just today and nothing happens. nethack doesn't have a real icon in the list, and when i try to launch the program it just doesn't go. This is probly the third time I've installed it.

I'll try a full reset and see if that does anything.

Edit: Nope...turns out that doesn't help when you're not running windows...lol

Any ideas would be incredibly welcome...I love me some nethack.

try running nethack.sh (you'll have to install xterm first)

it will attempt starting the game, and any errors about missing dependencies or otherwise ought to show themselves...

I'll have to take some time on my next day off to really get to work on getting this thing doing what I want it to do.

I got the same thing on my wooted n770.
just put IT2007 on it and tried again from xterm.
(wow all this linux stuff.. almost as confusing as xbox hackery)
i'll copy word for word what i got..
i didn't run it in xterm on it2006, but it was the same thing, failed to open or even say anything from the desktop..

ok.. this is going to sound REALLY wierd.. but after trying to run it.. gave up and messed with other proggys, maybe installed a couple.. it works now.. WIERD...

okay. I guess i'll just list what I installed. maybe the evil concoction hath spawned something needed for nethack..

Keep in mind that i installed the 2007 H.E. OS.

I have:
aisleriot, battlegweled, becomeroot, canoe, crazyparking, fceu, icebreaker, libsdl-net1.2, lxdoom, maemosweeper, nethack, osso-xterm, ttf-bitstream-vera, visualboyadvance, and xmaeme.

i also installed libxau0 from here (since i couldn't find a easier way to get it)
while in "red pill mode"

also enabled streaming music..

then i ran nethack like showed above, and after all this, it works..
you might not have to run it from xterm to fix it, because i installed some of this stuff after i tried it, so one of the things i installed might have fixed whatever was broke.. hopefully this helps..
