Using 770/800 as remote for pc automation

Hey all, I'm a nokia 770 owner for about a year now and have been enjoying this forum.

In a parallel universe I wrote a freeware Windows program called x10dispatcher. It has grown into a kind of swiss army knife for pc automation.
It was originally intended for home automation (controlling lights, motion sensors) but that functionality is optional.

Its got more features than i can mention here, alot of which you will probably never use so i will try to briefly summarize.

Newbies might be able to control Windows Media player or winamp from the web browser on their 770/800. You can control volume, change tracks, or launch playlists etc. To do this enable web server, connect to it at the x10d_index.htm web page on your computer ip : port, create macros invoking those appcontrol actions, and use web control pad to invoke macros.

Advanced users can use it to set up any number of infinite 'dr suess' automation scenarios, running macros, launching programs, running batch files, controlling applications either by app control codes or AutoHotKey macros (third party open source macro recorder). The web server also allows you to execute macros by a simple http request... you could write scripts/programs on nokia which issue http request to server to run a macro there.

You can monitor 4 web images (either web or local hard drive) such as weather or traffic cams or webcams.

If you have web cams you can add to this list the ability the monitor their still images in web page (using dorgem open source capture program)

If you have caller id you add capability of viewing caller id logs.

If you have remote connectivity you can be issued alerts when power goes out (if you have notebook or ups). You can browse webserver, viewing all info above such as images (weather/webcam/etc), invoke macros to do stuff mentioned above or tts speak text at console, send emails, etc.

If you like it you can buy an x10 cm15a from ebay for around $50 and add the capability of turning on lamps, motion/window/door sensor detection, alerting, etc.

Disclaimer : this application is truly intended to be 'glue' for any number of infinite automation scenarios so its easy to get 'lost' but its been out for awhile so there is online help and several years of forum questions to sift though.

You can download it here :
http://x10dispatcher.com

You will need to run it on a windows pc and you will need .net 2.0 framework installed (links on download page).

Online Help is available at that site and a link to the forums i use is on that site as well (if you want to read questions asked over the past year or so).
I can answer questions here too though.

Very interesting. I've been thinking about something like that for myself, and you might've just nailed it. Gonna check it out!
