N770 slowing down
Recently my N770 has been slowing down to the point of locking up. Can't be due to the software running, haven't changed that (or the OS) since the start of this year. And this even happens with Wireless off, Bluetooth of and only the clock running. Trying to access the clock leads to a lockdown
OS Version is the 2006 that enabled swapping to a SmartCard. I also got a larger (1GB) card in December 2006. I have since tried to disabel swapping, deleted a rather large set of pictures and all. The funny thing is, some days it works fine, some it does not. The unit has no visibel damage, has never been sat upon or used as a throwing weight. Any ideas? Since it is an early model the warrenty is IIRC up (2 years in Germany) |
Re: N770 slowing down
Have you tried without the MMC card at all ?

Re: N770 slowing down
No, neither that nor the older (Original Nokia) card.

Re: N770 slowing down
Well, that would at least eliminate one suspect (bad or dying MMC).
Next one would be "OS rot", usually cured by reflashing. Worst case is internal flash going bad... |
Re: N770 slowing down
Things I did so far:
+ Disabled swap + Reflashed the beast with the latest 2006OS Minor changes, the unit is SLOW but no longer locks up completely. Once I find the original Nokia card I'll try that. |
Re: N770 slowing down
Oh and a new detail:
The input from the virtual keyboard now changes between works, won't work and produce multiple chars from one short tap |
Re: N770 slowing down / behaves strange
And the final test has been run:
+ No swap + Original Nokia Card + Reflashed with lates 2006ED => The unit still behaves totally eratic being extremly slow one second than racing ahead and adding the same character dozends of times. No matter how "loaded" the maschine is, this happens even with only WiFi Config running. Guess it's a Brig. We'll see wether Nokia gives a guarantee, otherwise I get a nightstand and use my MDA/PDA WinCE unit even more. |
