Sharing N810 hostname in local network: how to ?
On my Linux 11.04 box and Macbook (and even iPad) the hostname is shared with the local network with the .local TLD (e.g. mymacbook.local). These devices are reachable from all other devices by this name.
But not the N810. When 'hostname' is e.g. my-N810, the network name my-n810.local is not recognized. Is there a trick to get this recognized ? |
Re: Sharing N810 hostname in local network: how to ?
You need zeroconf functionality for this.
In all linux derivatives (maemo just one of them) you need to install avahi-utils. So have you installed it? If not, please follow the instructions in this post http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=842841&postcount=5 Best regards. |
Re: Sharing N810 hostname in local network: how to ?
Thanks, the first part did work so my device is recognized as 'pocketpenguin.local' from the local network.
But the second part did not. Installing the package resulted in repo errors. apt-get -f install did not help nd perl *is* installed on my device (pre-installed by default). Any clue on this ? Code:
