How many seconds to connect to WiFi?

How many seconds does it take most of you to connect to your WiFi?

In most cases the applications time out before my 770 completes the connection, meaning that I have to connect first, then launch the application.

This is an Actiontec device provided by Verizon for my FiOS fiber connection. Wondering if I should get a better one.

I recently traveled with my N800 (likely similar performance in that was to the 770) and connected to a ton of wifi hotspots so I got a good sampling. I found the the speed of connection is very dependent on good signal strength and how crowded the wifi space is. With a good full strength signal, I got a connection within a few seconds. With a decent signal strength it would take slightly longer. With a decent signal strength with lots of other wifi APs around with some of them on the same channel, it might not connect at all or you will get the dreaded "link-local" connection which won't help you get to the Internet.

I know that 2.4GHz cordless phones and some leaky microwave ovens clobber wifi connectivity.

Must be something wrong with it--is there a setup page where you can specify maybe an "Extended Range Mode" or other power output???
