Notes lost.
Hi guys, I wonder if anybody could help me. I was using the application 'app-locker' on my n900, and my password to get into it was in my 'notes', so I had 'notes' open in the backround. I unlocked an app and my phone froze, I left it for an hour because I thought it might of been still working on unlocking the app. Eventually I turned the power off. When I turned it back on 'notes' wasn't in my app list, I managed to add the 'notes' shortcut to the desktop but it doesn't open.
I've restored my phone to a previously saved back-up but no luck it didn't show up. So any help on getting 'notes' back would be brilliant. Thanks. |

sounds like a reflash might be in order

remember app-locker "lock & hide" any application from our main menu...removing app-locker from our device wont restore back what you have lock...you need to unlock it first before removing app-locker from your device... |
Re: Notes lost.
My guess is that app-locker is preventing Notes from opening. This can probably be worked around. NB I don't have app-locker installed but file searching shouldn't need it.
The next thing to worry about is, finding the data. If you saved the info to a file, can you remember the folder-location and the name of the file? If not, there may be a workaround because if it exists, it should be findable! I'm assuming you can't use any software on your phone, is that correct? If this is the case, plug the device into your PC, in mass storage mode, and see if you can browse the folders (app-locker may prevent this - not good!). Can you see your file? Notes files are usually HTML (.html or .htm) or plain text (.txt). If there's no extension but the name looks right, do "Open with Notepad". The folder called "N900" in the pc file manager is /home/user/MyDocs . You cannot (easily/at all?) access the files above this from a pc. To do so you need to use the N900's terminal, microB or a proper file manager (not the hand-cuffed Nokia one). As to the passwords for app-locker - I suspect they're encrypted, but you may be able to find a way to reset them using the terminal, if you can run XTerminal? ** If you are looking for something like the file that appears when your pc crashes and you're working on a word-processing doc or similar (the recovery file?), then I don't think you're in luck. I think that if the information you typed was not physically saved in a file, it will have been erased either when the phone froze or when turning off the device. ** I may be wrong though. However, a crash-dump is likely to be higher up the directory-tree than MyDocs so you would need to view it on device ... not possible ... After all that, you've said that you've backed everything up so you could always flash your device? Next time, write down the access codes & stick it somewhere safe! |
Re: Notes lost.
Unless you've specified explicitly, isn't the 'notes' file (where you've stored your password) just a html file stored in MyDocs? Try browsing file:///home/user/mydocs/ in MicroB to see if you can find the relevant html file.

@rokafellaskank Any luck? *auto-detect - that might make quite a nice app or js for quick file browsing and loose spelling! |
Re: Notes lost.
I think App-locker lets you lock whichever apps you want to.
I was just slow formulating a response, I'd had the page open for ages before I got to it, I wouldn't have bothered if I'd read your response. :) Quote:

Re: Notes lost.
the problem will be solve after you have unlock notes application from app-locker...no need to use usb (connected to pc) & find the way around...
he lost notes applications not the notes.html...its the application itself not the files that have been save using notes... |
Re: Notes lost.
Thanks for the input guys. I've managed to retrieve all the info I had saved in 'notes'. I hadn't originally locked 'notes' in the 'app-locker', I just had it open in the backround. So my main concern has been solved by finding all my info, my only problem now is that my 'notes' icon doesn't work, but I can live with that.
Thanks for your time guys, it's reassuring to know that I've got a safety net. Cheers. |
