Firmware 4.2007.26-8: Bluetooth Pairing Problem

With this new firmware update, I can no longer pair via bluetooth with my Powerbook. Previously I could -- so does an old n770. Anybody know of any new configuration parameters to set to make this work? I have both bluetooth enable to on and the n800 set to "visible"... when trying to pair via the Phone control panel the n800 is unable to see any discoverable devices.

instead of using the n800 to see any devices, can your powerbook see the n800 instead? if so, use that to do the pairing instead of using the n800.

That actually worked, pairing that is... naturally the n800 has no services to offer but the pairing was done successfully.

I then tried pairing the n800 with an old nokia phone and it worked fine. So what is broken with this new firmware update is the ability to pair with my Powerbook -- previous versions of IT OS did allow it.

Probably best to open a bug in Bugzilla if this is not an isolated problem and other Powerbook owners are also affected. Have you updated your Powerbook recently, and does your 770 still find your Powerbook if you delete the Powerbook connection from your 770?

Yes, the 770 is able to pair with the Powerbook starting from scratch... and yes, the Powerbook had a recent update OS X 10.4.10. Previous to this I had confirmed that the Powerbook initiating discovery can see the 800 and pair with it.

At this point, the Powerbook's public HD did appear on the Filemanager menu. Part of my confusion is that on IT OS 2006 the whole intercation took place thru the Phone control panel... now, for pairing with a non-phone device the intercation is done thru the new Bluetooth control panel. And indeed, starting from scratch I was able to initiate pairing from the 800... but not without some flakiness.

So yes, pairing with the powerbook does indeed work now!

Thanks,

I have a somewhat related question - but I don't mean to change the thread...

If you restore from a backup do you have to go through the whole "pairing process" or will my bluetooth pairing settings be remembered from the backup?
Thank you.

edited to add - AFTER I reflash the new firmware will my bluetooth settings be restored form backup?

Sorry, I can't answer that... I always do firmware updates without restoring previous settings. Let's hope that someone that has actually restored settings after a firmware updatye can confirms if settings (network, phone, etc.,) do get restored... it sure would be nice.

Yes, you will have to re-pair your devices - Bluetooth settings are not backed up. Vote up bug #1174 if you want to see this fixed in future.
