Linux Distro (VMware) to tweak N800

I just bought an N770 yesterday and sold it subsequently today and bought a new N800.

I have an FC6 Linux desktop and an XP Pro notebook (with vmware), my question is which Linux Distro should I install on the vmware to communicate and transfer files to my n800? I plan to do some heavy duty tweaking to the n800 and as well as some development so any input will be appreciated.

The Ubuntu image works nicely for me, but I only have vmware player.

The n800 runs gnu/debain the arm build.

To communicate and transfer files, you don't need a Linux distro. There was a thread a while back about transferring files (see HERE), and the upshot was files/communication can happen with Windows or MacOS or Linux. To do development work, you need a Linux distro; Ubuntu has worked very well for me. I use both the VMware edition and a LiveCD version.

Yeah the first thing I did was setup SSH/SCP on it... recently found a Debian Etch vm that is working pretty well for me. IMy original reason for asking about the distors was because I had originally d-loaded ubunto vm and even the maemo sdk vw to enable R&D mode... neither worked, but debian etch did..
