Preparing my phone for sale

Hi guys, I have just sold my n900 - before i ship it off I wonder if someone could provide some advice on the best way to make sure any data on it isn't recoverable - particularly photos. I'd rather not have to factory reset / wipe the thing.

For example, if I was to delete a large portion off the hard drive of my computer, some of it could probably be recovered with special software - I assume this would apply to the HDD within the N900?

Any advice here appreciated.

Why not flash it? It's the easiest and quickest way.

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mmcblk0p1 (this is MyDocs)
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mmcblk0p2 (this is /home/opt)
I wouldnt dd /dev/mtd5, as doing that may fully brick the thing.

Reflash after the second dd.

dd'ing /dev/mtd5 is pretty harmless, you'd only need to reflash rootfs image to get up and running again.

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mtd<0-2> I don't think is terribly fatal either, it looks as though you can recover from this as well: https://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_.../Cold_Flashing
