Strange USB problem

Hi. My N900 won't charge any more via the charger but I can charge it using the adapter that came with it that allows you to use old nokia chargers. I can still connect it with the computer and browse files but that is all. I no longer can connect flashdrives or charge it in by my solar charger. I opened it up to see if the usb connector has become loose but it was still attached. To make sure I re-soldered it but with the same results. Can some on give me an idea of what this could be. The most thing I miss is connecting flashdrives and external HDD's. I tought it may be a software problem but I doubt. Hope to find some answers!

I had a similar problem, which went away after I reflashed. If you try that, make sure to back up all your data first!

But I have to install all apps from scratch and I have alot of them installed. I do not want to flash it and the problem will still be there. Or is there a way to preserve all the apps?

You can try BackupMenu.

check with a small pin or piece of card the central pin that you can see when looking at socket as mine wobbles and i have to press down on lead a little to make connection but isn't the usual usbmproblem reported so don't know how to fix

I had a situation exactly as you describe. The problem for me was that the charging pin had a poor connection with the main board. If you compare the plugs of your various micro-usb leads, you'll see that the female aspect can vary a little in height between them which I guess is why it works for some cables and not others.

My solution was to go to the cell phone market and have the repair guys solder a new usb plug on the board for me.

Is it very hard to replace the USB connector your self? I have soldering experience but not on this small scale. I think I will need a blow gun for this.
