Opera browser settings Tips.
Refer to http://www.opera.com/support/usingopera/operaini/ and change the /home/user/.opera/opera.ini file to change the settings. You can change the following settings
- Increase/Decreas disk cache (beyound) 512 KB. I am using 4 MB (4096) - Empty cache on exit. - Delete cookies on exit. And many more which you can not set from GUI. ------------------------------------------------- Also change /home/user/.opera/input.ini Change [Browser Widget] Right to "Scroll right" from "Navigate right", Left to "Scroll left", Up to "Scroll up" and Down to "Scroll down". After this change the arrow keys will scroll two lines instead of going to next clickable link (navigate). This will make reading web pages much easier. Even though Left_long/Right_long/Up_long/Down_long are already defined as "Scroll", but for those you need to keep the arrow keys pressed and scrolling is faster than you can read. ------------------------------------------------------ For editing, you will have to use xterm and vi. You can also use xterm and leafpad. Root access is not required as opera.ini and input.ini are owned by user *Not* root. ------------------------------------------------------- Happy browsing. |
Re: Opera browser settings Tips.
Another tip.
Go to http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm and download hosts.zip on your laptop and or computer. Heck even on n770. Unzip it. on n770 open xterm and sudo gainroot. then edit /etc/hosts copy all the hosts entries in hosts file downloaded from mvps to n770 /etc/hosts. This will make browsing faster as those sites will blocked. Adv will disappear from you web pages. |
Re: Opera browser settings Tips.
Wow! These are two great tips! Im going to go and try the Opera one right now.

Re: Opera browser settings Tips.
There's also 'Page down' and 'Page up' which I prefer to 'Navigate down' and 'Naviagate up'. I use them for Up and Down, which simply lets me scroll by a page at the time.

Re: Opera browser settings Tips.
With the new hosts file entries Opera now pops up an error I have to click through whenever it tries to access ad.doubleclick.net. However lots of other ads seem to have vanished with no error messages. I've had a look at the relevant section of the hosts file but I can't see anything that might be causing the problem

Re: Opera browser settings Tips.
I also get that on N770. But I do not get that with same host file on laptop. There is a bug in Opera (version 7) present on N770 which was fixed in later builds of N770. This happens only for ad.doubleclick.
You can search for doubleclick entries in hosts file and live with seeing those adds. Or upgrade to IT2007. Though I am not sure, but I belive it has newer version of opera hence should solve this. I am anyway going to try IT2007HE on n770 later this month. |
Re: Opera browser settings Tips.
I'm using an N800 so I'm already running 2007.
*Edit* I's also happened with a couple of unrelated entries too. |
Re: Opera browser settings Tips.
Is there a way to be able to use the center button (of the 4 way) to select a link instead of having to click on the link.
I made the changes from scroll to page up/down but it would be great to be able to get some functionality out of the center button - right now it does nothing when I push on it in a link. |
Re: Opera browser settings Tips.
Hmm, whenever I try to edit opera.ini it says ''permission denied''. What am II doing wrong?
