URGENT DEADLINE:How to backup N900 when Screen wont turn on!
 

Ive got some irreplaceable contacts on phone and the n900s screen wont turn on. About to send back to vodafone but they are going to format the phone and i will lose contact with one person if i cant get the number!

Phone turns on but screen wont work. Buttons light up screen is black and led is black also. Tried to connect with usb cable but it says phone is not in pc suite mode.

If anyone has any solution i would be very happy. Thanks so much.

Does the touchscreen work? If it works you could try to click the pc suite button blindly.

Thanks for the replys guys. Tried to blind touch the usb setttings but no luck. It appears the touch screen is out. I expect the ribbon cable is not functioning. I could buy a TV out cable fast delivery from ebay. Will I be able to find the contacts and get the numbers up using just the keyboard alone?

do you have openssh server installed? if you don't, you can try blind install it from xterm. I think you can pull the address book db file from the phone and read it from computer with some db viewer tool.

i dont have it installed, how do i install it and open xterm using keyboard only?

edit: Any idea if i can bring up a contacts number using keyboard only?

ctrl+shift+x to open xterm
root
apt-get install openssh-server
wait for 2 mins
enter password then hit enter
enter password again and hit enter.

try to access your phone using winscp from computer, you need to know your phone ip address.

crap dont know that. Is there a command to backup the whole phone using xterm and back up to memory card?
