OS2007HE dual-boot/partitioning questions
I want to dual-boot my 770. OS2006 on internal flash, OS2007HE on 1GB MMCMobile. (Who doesn't?)
Question 1: Is there a concise guide to doing this? The wiki guide doesn't mention OS2007HE compatibility. Question 2: Do I have to partiton? Why not have one big partition? I realize that Windows PCs can't mount an ext2 partition (though there is a driver available), but all my PCs are Linux-based, so that's okay. I would want to partition for swap, though. Thanks. |
Re: OS2007HE dual-boot/partitioning questions
I'd like to add to this:
Question 3: With a 2GB card, can I have more than one flash image on perhaps additional partitions? I'd like to run with MMC1 VFAT, MMC2 OS2006, MMC3 OS2007HE and configure the bootmenu to have MMC3 as another option. |

BTW consider searching this forum before posting, both questions were already asked (and answered) few times. Quote:
Personally I use VFAT + three ext3 partitions (2006,2007HE, temporary one for sardine or other experiments) Or search this forum, people did it before. In fact I think all possible questions related to booting from mmc were already asked (and answered) few times here in this forum :-) |

I'll admit I haven't used the search feature as much as I should, but I figured as long as someone was looking for answers, I'd ask something related that might also be useful to them. I followed the EASIER guides on the wiki, and aside from having xterm crash back to the desktop while moving the the OS from flash to the SD card, things went quite smootly. I didn't see anything about creating additional bootmenu items and naturally after reading the guides I didn't read the readme's that came with anything. ;-) I've only had my Nokia for a little over a week now, but it continues to wow and bedazzle folks. "No! It isn't an iPhone. It's better. I can run Doom and XTerm." If only I could VPN into work... |

Re: OS2007HE dual-boot/partitioning questions
I've tried searching. I am amazed at the number of posts here that refer to an exrternal resource without linking to it. Plus, most were about OS2006. Saying something like "you do it the normal way except you do this" isn't helpful unless you're familiar with 'the normal way.'

Re: OS2007HE dual-boot/partitioning questions
If your desktop is running Windows, the resolution is irrelevant. Remote Desktop can open up a new non-console session, and it can use whatever resolution you want. In Windows that's accomplished with:
mstsc /v:host /w:800 /h:600 (for example) I believe rdesktop for the 770/800 automatically specifies the resolution of the device. It is a bit cramped though! Anyone know how to double-click in rdesktop from your 770???????????????? Or how about special key combinations? Ctrl/alt/etc Guess this post is off topic... |
