UpdateConfigurator: deactivate update notifications or change period

Here is my new small tool called Updateconfigurator.

You can change the value of updatechecks from 1-99 days or 0 if you want to deactivate it at all.

If you wish to restore default settings, iīve implemented a function for that.

It is available in Extras-Devel

Looks nice.. but normally you would set the value once and forget about it, and that only involves a gconf call, so I doubt this program will be so useful.. (no "everyday use" :)

Still, thanks a lot for the app!

correct, but there are many other "settings"programs you donīt really use more then one time and there are still some people who donīt get used to terminal

Anyway, thx

anyone who travels regularly, and is in the habit of swapping SIM cards to local prepaid ones with (limited) data allowance, would disagree.

I'm personally OK with the dbus calls to prevent auto-updates for the number of days I'll be abroad, but a) not every user is comfy with xterm/script files and b) I'm lazy enough that having a UI is way better than remembering the dbus syntax or the name of my own script fle that contains the dbus command :-)

Nica app Robokopp, thanks.

indeed... my local plan is ok with regular checks, but when roaming it is nice to switch this off.
And a GUI is always easier to use than resorting to some commandlines like I have done until now.

Will try this app.

EDIT: one remark: the proper spelling when selecting 0 days should be "deactivated", not "deaktivated"

hmmmm that bit when you say "0 if you want to deactivate".... is it really deactivated update, or it is just a long period of time when it runs update....????

Re: UpdateConfigurator: deactivate update notifications or change period

its just a long period: 1000000 = about 694 days which is long enough i think
complete deactivation is not possible

694 days is ~2 years :P Drop another two 0's to make it a very improbable value
