IMEI not valid

My beloved N900 wont boot up up past the NOKIA logo, if I plug in a usb cable it endlessly reboots.

I've tried putting it in R&D mode and this lets me boot once, but after a while it just shuts down and then the reboot cycle begins again.

I've decided to re-flash but on the nokia download page I'm getting the following message when I input my IMEI number

Product ID not valid. Please re-enter the 15-digit IMEI code.

I'm clearly typing in the correct number, anyone else experience this problem, how can I resolve it?

Thanks in advance
Sorry, please delete this thread. I wasnt inputting the number correctly. d'oh there is no hope for me.

You can try flashing the framebuffer kernel and see if you can see anything in the console output during booting that looks like an error.

It isn't hard to find your IMEI nor is it hard to find random IMEI number for N900 floating on the internet.

I won't go discussing into howto find a random IMEI number for N900 floating on internet as I'm sure there's potential legal ramifications that I would have to probably deal with later on. For locating your IMEI there's at least 3 ways:
1) Settings > General > About Product > IMEI:
2) *#06# at phone dialling pad
3) The method described at N900's firmware downloads page

my problem was very simple, i was entering the IMEI and inserting a - in between the numbers as shown on the label on my phone. You need to enter without the -'s.

I doubt you're as stupid as me for this to be your problem, but you never know.......

Re: IMEI not valid

Can someone please explain to me why one would need to manually enter the IMEI? Isn't it hardcoded in the inaccessible areas of the firmware or sumthing?

When you want to download new firmware from the nokia site, you need to enter you're IMEI number, the highly anticipated mobile telepathy program still has bugs.

Nokia's site won't let you download firmware images unless you enter a valid IMEI. You need firmware images if you need to re-flash your device for some reason.

I mean on the device itself, in order to be allowed to boot it, not in some site to download things.

edit:erm, i think i misread this thread...
