Are you sure that this time the selection and transparent things won't get screwed up like it was the last time Qt was updated? Because freoffice got unusable, all selections in all parts of the system got screwed and some apps that use transparent backgrounds lost their backgrounds.

I'm not sure if this is a good move.

If there are changes in header files (e.g. constant values changes), rebuild of all applications should fix that. But if there are interface and behaviour changes, it may be more sensible to keep sloted QT installation for new applications, which is not ideal from the point of memory usage.

Just checked Freoffice with Qt 4.7.4, no visible problems (i.e. selection works) . Are you aware of any other applications which have had problems with Qt 4.7.4 (besides jspeed)?

I'll list you what was the problems I found the last time Qt was updated to 4.7.2:

Freoffice: I wasn't able to select anything within its text editor (yes, I use FreOffice as a text editor from time to time- I like to suffer).
But if you say the text is ok and the selection within the text is ok, wonderful!

Selection, in general, throughout the phone got messed up, as in, for instance, FileBox:
Open filebox and then click the button in the right side of the button with a house (which will turn it a text box with the full path of that directory) and the try to select all the text by hitting the end and grabbing till the start: The section won't appear. I knew it was there because after hitting any key all the "selected" text was gone, but the "blue" behind the text wouldn't appear. And this behaviour was all around the phone.

Now, about the transparent backgrounds I only remember this case:
