Changing the boot video rendered my N900 unbootable
As the title suggests, I edited the file /etc/hildon-welcome.d/default.conf to match the name of my boot video, and then rebooted my device, and when it is in the point of where it should play the video, nothing but a black screen is there, forever. Now, I don't usually post this kind of threads, I always reflash since I don't have any kind of important stuff, but I really have to get important files from /usr/bin and /home/user/ dirs. There are two very important files there which I haven't backed up (my fault) and i really need them. So, is there any way to access them via a PC? I don't have backup menu installed (again, my fault), so, is there any kind of recovery thingy, what if I install MeeGo on my sdcard and then boot it can I get to there?

A one-day bump.

Re: Changing the boot video rendered my N900 unbootable
If it was my phone, I'd reflash and use a tool like "Recuva" to do a deep scan of the MyDocs folder and EMMC, it may be possible to recover them...
I think it is impossible to access the EMMC without an OS running |
Re: Changing the boot video rendered my N900 unbootable
Oh thx for the reply, however, the important files I need are not in the ./MyDocs partition...

Sorry dude, forgot that you cant access rootfs from USB...
This is weird I always thought if there was a problem with the welcome vid that it just skips it? |
Re: Changing the boot video rendered my N900 unbootable

Re: Changing the boot video rendered my N900 unbootable
Seriously, i wouldn't do anything today without BackupMenu & sshd installed. Now, if only the root shell of it would work*... that would save some steps (namely, setting up USB networking on a Linux host and using ssh).
* I am not able to login, as every time when i want to give the passwd, the menu is drawn all over again. |
Re: Changing the boot video rendered my N900 unbootable
I think you might be able to access the ubifs (and so fix your problem) using the aid of the link that nicolai posted by loading (not flashing) the Meego rescue initrd and kernel to the device memory. You'll possibly get more help on #meego-arm. You can definitely access the entire emmc this way as there is a usb mass storage mode.
One other thought I had is trying to enable R&D mode, maybe that might help avoid the reboots? |
