Hellow and some question : D
ah...i'm the user from taiwan
and hellow everyone : ) i think maemo is a good OS even though there are lot of OS like android, iOS around me.(feel lonely sometimes Orz) and my device is n900, my question's turn. XD recently, i'm thinking about the language prob we use traditional chinese here and i had installed scim already, but it seems like only work for input when i trans some file from my PC (like .doc or .txt) to n900 if it contents chinese ,it will become a mess... and the same prob occurs on files name. so i'm considering about this, the prob seems sourse to the system. maemo doesn't have the code (like big5 ?)that support chinese. is it possible to install one in maemo? or there had been an anser for it? oh...and thx for your reading and patient for my poor english. have a good day :D |

I've spent a few minutes looking for more information on Big5 encoding on Maemo/N900, but I'm afraid I was unable to find anything good to give you. Even this thread is one of the first results on Google already for 'maemo big5' or 'n900 big5'. I'm afraid that I have no Chinese language skills. Therefore I'm not sure how much I can help you. I will ask some friends to help me tomorrow. Please ask more questions if you would like help with anything else. |
Re: Hellow and some question : D
SCIM stands for Smart Common Input Method so yes that's why you will only see it useful for inputting Asian words.
I am guessing it might be a limitation with FAT32 filesystem not able to handle certain encodings correctly. Have you tried to transfer files with English names but with Chinese words in the contents? |

name and contents are indepedent, they won't affect each other here are some cases use usb cable : chinese file name will be fine but contents not use ssh : chinese file name and contents both mess use network places(win xp): same as ssh maybe the answer is in the nokia's usb program!? |
Re: Hellow and some question : D
I am also assuming you have installed all the relevant locales such as zh_TW, zh_HK, and zh_CN?
Also SSH depends on the logged in users's $TERM variable, which may mess up the filename. I don't know about network places. |
Re: Hellow and some question : D
and i had tried some app such as doc to go and freoffice
they also showed different support level for chinese letter but both inperfect. (doc to go is worse than freoffice) so app may carry the language code? |
Re: Hellow and some question : D
I guess they may have their own ways of decoding to encodings on the document.

Re: Hellow and some question : D
I'm afraid I was too busy at work today to find time to ask my Chinese-speaking friends for help. I'll try again tomorrow.
