Re: catalogs for n900
thank u dude but i was wondering that the package named : extras devel isn't good right ?
|
Re: catalogs for n900
extras-devel is not a package but a repository for a whole bunch of packages that are pretty much bleeding edge (brand spanking new without any testing done beforehand).
It is probably not a good idea to have it enabled if you're not familiar with maemo environment and particularly linux (including working with CLI as well). Though many programs that have not been promoted to extras may remain either in extras-testing (where they will be tested) or forever in extras-devel (probably because they were not meant to be for the end users or their usefulness was limited to a few people). |

This is what the N900 is about, pushing the limits otherwise i could have kept on using my prism7900, looked good but it was only a phone. Before i install a new app, i always google and TMO about it. Sometimes it goes wrong, i know but mostly it works perfect thx to the developers here. |

FAM should be faster but it's the same mostly, i'll do apt-get update apt-get upgrade very rarely i see the yellow square in the top bar MOD EDIT: Doing an apt-get upgrade may break your system hence always use the Application Manager (HAM) to do any package upgrades! |

Though like I said, extras-devel may contain programs which you may never see be available in extras due to the lack of audience and/or because of its own issues internally. In either case extras-devel is where all the cool thing happens for tinkerers :D |
Re: catalogs for n900
Ah, cool:)
I had to keep doin "killall apt-worker" most of the time and "apt-get update" every once in awhile but couldn't do "apt-get upgrade" as there are a few apps that i don't want to be upgraded. Might try FAM one of these days. Cheers :) -Ethan |
