Office apps on the N-IT.
 

Apparently, the Palm Foleo will come with a version of DataViz's Documents To Go software. At least, that's according to this (http://www.krunker.com/2007/07/18/sn...he-palm-foleo/) blogpost.

I like Documents To Go: It Generally Works <TM> without too much fuss and it delivers pretty standard format documents (no OpenDocument alas!).

So what has this got to do with the N-IT, I hear the public grumble. Simply this: The Foleo runs Linux, meaning that DataViz has now a version of their software for Linux. Since so many people have been grumbling about office software (obviously, not me!), it might be a good idea for Nokia (and an opportunity to redeem themselves as well) to go negotiating/requesting/begging at DataViz to maybe get a version out for Maemo/Hildon, especially now that Intel seems to have taken a shine to Hildon.

Obviously, DTG cannot compete with Gnumeric and Abiword (if they ever get ready, that is), but the suite gives enough functionality to be enjoyed using on a small device. I should know, I have the UIQ version installed on my SE P910i (although it came with a version of QuickOffice installed) and I'm quite satisfied with it.

So, I figured maybe someone who isn't already on Nokia's blacklists (for being a pain in the butt) could maybe give them a ring or something...

also, the editing facilities of Google Docs are puny, compared to even a trimmed-down suite like Documents To Go.

DTG is actually quite good. The newer Palm versions have Powerpoint support too. I never used it much on my T3 (not being a Word person), except for the spreadsheet. But DTG is, or at least used to be, better MS Office than what came on PDAs running Microsoft's OS and software. And it came pre-installed on Palm devices (commercial software though, you can upgrade minor versions but must pay for major versions, e.g. 6.01->6.08 free, 6.x-7.x pay).

DTG before version 10 was great on Palm Device ... but since this version rtf isn't supported.
