How to update a N9
I have a N9 with the versions 10.2011.34-1.232.2_PR_232. If I am correct, this is far from the last. The documentation coming with the N9 say that it should automatically check for update and display a notice to do that. Well, I still waiting for that... I also checked manually if update is available, but it always say it's up to date.
I there a way to update the N9 manually ? Back to the N900 day there was fairly easy to find pages telling where the new firmware images was and how to flash it into the device. But for the N9, I failed to found how to update it to the last firmware. |
Re: How to update a N9
You can update it via OTA or via NSU.
I would download NSU (Nokia Software Updater) from Nokias website. Download, install, connect, it will search for new updates (20.2011) and it will update it. |
Re: How to update a N9
Thanks for your help,
OTA = Over the Air, but only with GPRS or a WiFi is enough ? I ask because the http://europe.nokia.com/support/prod...oftware-update page say that the last firmware is 20.2011.40-4 and that I should have get a notification. I test the N9 with a prepay SIM card without GPRS. But it is always connected to the WiFi. As for the NSU the page say: it runs on Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. So it's a not possible as I don't have any Windows OS. I tried with wine, but it crashed. Is there any other ways ? Or I am lost with this old version.... |
Re: How to update a N9
Find another W7 computer and do it.
I think via OTA you can do it through WI FI. |
Re: How to update a N9
It just depends on your 'Product Code', check that and see if it matches any in the following list, these are the currently available v20
Code:
059L9L8: N9 RM-696 Claro Argentina AR Magenta_DeepSKD_v2 |
Re: How to update a N9
Or you can just FLASH it yourself with FW from navifirm... thats what I did.

Re: How to update a N9
The firmware isn't officially released for all product codes, so that's probably why you're not getting a notification. Nokia Software Updater doesn't work with wine, neither does navifirm, but there is a harmattan flasher that runs natively on linux. You just need to somehow get on windows and use navifirm to download a copy of the firmware you want to flash, then flash it in linux. Very frustrating, but that's how it is.
Here's a guide on how to flash your N9: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=79882 If you can get ahold of a windows computer though, you may want to just install NSU and use that to update. @chrisp7 I believe so. I didn't try that specifically, but I know you could do that with previous nokia phones. I flashed firmware for a different product code with no problems, so if you can change your product code, I don't see why OTA update won't work. |
