Calling on all US forum members please read!!
We need to stop SOPA. The way the bill is currently structured it could mean an end to file sharing sites (mediafire, dropbox, etc)
If one of these sites happens to be accused of having copyrighted files on it they will blocked completly. That means anything you have stored there will not be accessible. This will have a huge impact on open source development since we all use services like these to share our work. For information on what you can do to help: http://americancensorship.org Edit: I am fully aware of all the threats to US freedom. Please try to keep this disscussion to SOPA since it will directly effect users of this forum and the open source community Thanks in advance Mike |

unfortunately one man can not make much of a difference, just look at obama. I will vote for him since it seems he is the only one that understands freedom.
I dont want this thread to turn into a political soap box. SOPA is directly related to how open source works and I will pursue all avenues to protect freedom of information no matter how futile it may seem. No offence but its attitudes like dont waste your time that keep us all repressed. |

as he was stumping to run I was also deluded that there was still hope. Michael, like Ron Paul (and many others) so consistently says, held that we did not need more new laws as much as we simply needed to abide by the Constitution. It was as I discussed this with Badnarik that I began to realize that every law chips away at freedom. and that utlimately there is no solution in the Babel Towers of legislation that people yearn to impose on others and, in lip service only, on themselves. The problem I began to see clearly was that the population mass has a vector that is programmed into virtually everyone stateside: 'Every problem has a legislative solution' - this is a mental algorithm which can only lead to catastrophic complexity. I left the U.S. in deep depression at what I witnessed thereafter I do wish you well in your hopes, but the reality is that you are prisoners now of a groupthink mentality that cannot be altered in its current course. The mathematics of social physics ensure that inevitability. Isaac Asimov clearly illustrated this problem in his epic Foundation trilogy. Furthermore, Asimov's ideas about the Three Laws of Robotics illustrate the issue of how almost no one can resist the temptation to 'fix things' by simply adding yet another law. And that is how I came to understand that in this universe there exists only one law. /soapbox off now back to cracking that Gentoo install on that poulsbo-addled tablet I bought before I fell in love with the n900 |

Re: Calling on all US forum members please read!!
obviously the net issue is a big deal around the world, with more governments wanting to block sites.
Here in Australia they wanted to put in a mandatory firewall. I think they will success when the government fiber optics comes online. Anyway, my point was that even if this bill doesn't pass... there'll be another around the corner.. maybe even on christmas... after a massive DoS attack. I mentioned Ron Paul because if all these groups suggested voting for him, then he'd have more votes and maybe win. |

Nice!
After a reddit user found that godaddy was supporting SOPA, the backlash started. Users of godaddy start transfering their domains, most notably Wikipedia. After a short stand, about 24hrs, godaddy pulled their support. I know it is the holidays but please if you havent already, or feel like doing it again contact your local official and let them know that SOPA is not acceptable. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/n...t-for-sopa.ars |
