Playing a video while it's downloading
 

Hey.

What all video file extensions can be played before the download is completely finished?

Also, in Windows XP, how can I stop it from adding .part to the file while it's downloading?

I would like to stream videos from my PC to my XBOX but I don't want the constant waiting to play only complete video files, and mplayer on the XBOX doesn't recognize a .part extension on a video.

.mkv and whatever video format is used in iPhones.

It also depends on the media player you use,
I have been able to play AVI's (Mp3's), WMV's,

I think it's something to do with compression, and if you're downloading the video from the torrent then it's not that easy cos it's not downloading from one point to another but bits and pieces throughout the file.

The videos aren't being downloaded from a torrent.

Either I need to figure out a way for Myplayer on my Xbox to play a .part file or have Windows not rename it while the video is downloading.

The reason I said it is dependent on the compression used is cos that's wat various video formats are anyway. There should be some process that makes incomplete files not play.

Either that or the player... My windows media player seems to have problems playing incomplete files while i found VLC to be able to play those...
