Please, do not get used to use the term 'app' despite it's very common now. This term was coined around that time when Apple started to provide small and often useless crappy software packages in their "AppStore" (that were often a mere toy) for doofus people, when they introduced their iOS 2.

Serious people use 'programs', applications', or 'software' / 'packages' in general, especially when it is full-featured desktop / netbook software. Thank you.

They are probably so-called "source tarballs". You'll have to extract and compile them (and build a package too).

Re: Where to find Meego apps for netbooks

There is a community repository for MeeGo netbooks. You can find it in the wiki or the forum at www.meego.com.

Then there's the Intel AppUp store on the few netbooks that actually come with MeeGo preinstalled. If you want to use the AppUp store on a vanilla MeeGo, you need an Intel Developer Account and get it from appdeveloper.intel.com.
However, the quality of the apps in Intel's MeeGo AppUp store as well as the store client software itself is the worst imaginable. You wouldn't miss anything important without AppUp.

I also don't like dummified "apps" term in the common speech, and I agree that it wasn't widely used before Apple.
