I've seen that youtube playback is a little choppy on this device, even with the OS update. Is it due to a physical limitation or is it something that can be solved in the future with software optimization?

There are several alternate players that are optimized for YouTube. Try the search feature near the top of the forum index page. I do not use YouTube on my N800 so I am not familiar with these applications.

This was the question and not what to do to make YouTube play smoothly. How to do that can be found on this forum using the Search function.
