help:openvpn
Greetings
I have been trying to make vpn work from my N900.So far I have seen many threads regarding this matter ,open vpn website etc.But I am unable to understand a single thing from them. As of now I have downloaded openvpn ,and its status menu applet. After reading from various sources I have created server.conf and client.conf in /etc/openvpn.Now the applet recognizes the .conf files.I have searched for the easy-rsa folder at various locations such as usr/share/openvpn but I could not find it.So obviously I am unable to generate any certificates. what I need is a basic easy to understand vpn tutorial and instructions to do so between my router and N900. I did try my level best to understand this myself in vain, hence this post. Please enlighten me. Thanks a lot. |
Re: help:openvpn
Openvpn requires a server and a client. Usually the n900 is the client.
The server needs to be always on and connected to the Internet. You also need a way to reach the server by specifying a name. If you have a domain, then get one sub domain to point to your openvpn server. Alternatively, you can use a dynamin DNS service like dyndns.org to point to your servers IP. Most Cisco/Linksys routers support dyndns updates. Then follow the instructions. If you're looking for openvpn server on your router, then it depends on your router if that is supported. dd-wrt has an openvpn build. See their wiki |
