Application list not refreshing
 

Sorry if theres already a thread for this..
But, I cant get my Application list to refresh. I'm trying to get GAIM, so I added the catalogues for it, but, when it tries to refresh the list, it acts normal, downloads about 3kb of data, says "refreshing application list" and the bar loads completely, and then I get a box that pops up saying "Unable to refresh list. Last refreshed list is shown."
I do have the latest update for it, as far as I can tell, I dont see any new ones in the list for updates, and it was refreshed last on 30/07/07

Any suggestions?

one of your catalog's is wrong/corrupt. try disabling them all, and enabling one by one to see when it fails.

linickx, BIG thanks for that tip -- the first time I've clearly understood how to diagnose the problem, which has plagued my N800 for weeks. It worked! But now I've got two application catalogs -- for Maemo Mapper and Antiword -- that are disabled because they block the app catalog from refreshing. What do I do now?

no probs :)

I'd try deleting the offending repo's / catalogs re-adding them, if that fails you may have to contact the maintainer.

(I don't have the Maemo Mapper and Antiword repo's perhaps someone else can post their settings)

If you have root access, you can always refresh the catalog manually by issuing

apt-get update

as root in an xterm - I doubt that this will change the "last refreshed" time in app-manager but the catalog will get updated nevertheless

The output will also tell you which repositories failed to update.

Thanks again, linickx and steckel. I'll try both, the first at the Maemo Garage and the second with Osso Xterm.

i have also tried apt-get update as root, and i get tons of errors involving keys. when i get home this evening, i will reset my list of repositories. thats a good tip, thanks!

those are not errors, it just states that the repositories are not digitally signed with apt-key

the lists are updated anyway.

If you have problems refreshing the applications list, check the log (app-manager menu -> tools -> log...). It should show which repositories couldn't be contacted.

I've found if you have a lot of repos it can take a long time to refresh and if you get a glitch in your wireless you will get the "failed to refresh" error message. Moving closer to my wireless router greatly reduced my error messages.
