[IDEA] Minimize Writes to Filesystem
As you might know, flash memory alows a limited number of writes before it starts to "wear off" and bad sectors start appearing. I just took a look at /etc/fstab, and I was wondering if it would be possible and worthwhile to mount certain dirs like /var/tmp and /tmp in memory via tempfs to minimize writes to the filesystem. What do you think?

Re: [IDEA] Minimize Writes to Filesystem
so what mushrooms have you been eating, /tmp has always been tmpfs.
As an idea to avoid excessive writes is a good thing, but normal end users will never end up in the situation where flash starts to fail. |
Re: [IDEA] Minimize Writes to Filesystem
This wouldn't help for /tmp - as rainisto said - but maybe giving /var/log and some other directories the tmpfs treatment would help things out.
Has anyone experienced flash failures on their N900s? |
