Surprises...
 

With the recent price drops, I am considering picking up a 770.

What I'd like to know is what surprised you when you started using yours?

What made you say "Wow! I didn't know it could do that!"?

What made you say "Why the hell can't it do this?"

Well I read quite a lot of reviews so no real surprises (good or bad). Not being a Linux user, it can be difficult messing around with the kernel but hey, that's to be expected.

It really is a lovely piece of kit.

For me, I was after playing music off the memory card, watching the occasional movie, listening to music streamed off my pc, playing the odd game or two and reading books. It does all of these happily (I asked it if it was happy of course). Ironically, browsing the web and email was tertiary to my requirements : )

Keep viewing this site - it's by far the best with a lot of helpful people.

I'd agree. If you scour through the 770 threads on this site, you'll have an exact idea of what the device is capable of. Keep in mind some of the complaining thought they were buying a laptop. I wasn't too shocked that the 770 wouldn't play Unreal Tournament 2006 at 300 frames per second... some people were.

Well I'm getting 150 FPS, so on a device like this I'm not complaining with UT at that speed!!!

Thanks for the quick responses. I make no assumptions that this is a miracle device.

- My gaming PC and Xbox360 handle the games
- My gaming PC and Linux Laptop handle the computing
- iPod handles music on the go (and occasionally video)
- Nokia e62 handles the GoodLink email for work

Why I am considering the 770...

- It costs less than my wife spends on latte in a month
- Laptop in bed gets hot and cumbersome
- Watching ripped video on a screen larger than the iPod
- Streaming music/webcasts/video from my PC's drives

After reading so many reviews, my concerns are mainly the quality of video playback for when I want to watch a video from memory card on the go or at the other end of the house. One of the main reasons I picked up the e62 over a new Blackberry was its purported video playback. I love the e62, but video playback is not worth a hill of beans. AND I only get 12 fps in UT.

I'm surprised mine has been working so well, after reading all the reports of WSOD's, crashes, etc, (hope I didn't just jinx myself). Biggest disappointments, is probably Flash player 6, or at least not having an option to upgrade it, short of installing the OS2007HE... No equalizer with the audio player.

I'm happy with it for the price. I'm basically using it as a mp3 player, with the added advantage of streaming music from the Internet and my PC. I have it paired with Creative's TravelSound speakers when I'm not using headphones and the sound is surprising good.

I also use the web browser more than I expected to.

Well if video playback is essential and the other aspects are lesser, the playback on a PSP is hard to beat. I almost went for one but, video playback isn't that important to me. The Nokia does a good job of movies I would say, not great (the excellent resolution is let down by the lower colour range) but still perfectly viewable.

As crazy as it sounds, I never even considered the PSP route...

Does a PSP have full web browsing?? Shows how interested I have ever been in a PSP :)

I have a PSP. While it does have web browsing, it's basically just a novelty. No streaming audio options, constant out of memory errors. i gave up on PSP's web browsing feature pretty fast.
