[Announce] [N9] GAuth for Google Authenticator users
So I've held back on this announcement because I was waiting for my version update to go through to the Nokia Store, but as I see the first version is released and people have started downloading it, which makes me very happy, I'd like everyone to know that my first release-quality open-source and Nokia Store-accepted application is now out there for free.
So what is it? Well from my list of "missing Android apps" it's a simplified implementation of Google Authenticator supporting one account and generating valid six-digit token codes for Google Account's two-step verification feature. Simply install GAuth (and MeeScan) re-set your two-step verification settings on Google, scan the QR code with MeeScan and copy and paste the code's text into Web (this is a workaround for a MeeScan limitation). This will start GAuth and initialise it with your settings. The code updates every 30 seconds and the app works in landscape and portrait. Note - the first version on Nokia Store (version 1.1) will forget your settings when you upgrade to the newer, better 1.3 version. Sorry about that (I just blindly followed the Harmattan-dev example here). I recommend new users get the version 1.3 app from GitHub until Nokia Store updates next weekend. Update: The Nokia Store has updated today and the proper version 1.3 is out now. More details on my blog. I am slowly working on other apps to scratch my own itches. The next is essentially a better Google Latitude client a sneak peek of which is also on GitHub already. |

This is so full of awesome sauce I may just puke :D
Thanks dude! PS Someone remind me again why Nokia is abandoning this slick, beautiful, elegant, easy to use platform?... |
Re: [Announce] [N9] GAuth for Google Authenticator users
Nice app, the problem is that the email application is not working anymore. Could you help please?
It is asking for the password... One more thing: why changing the password every 30 seconds? Problem solved with my email application: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMabEyrtPRg&t=2m13s |

Re: [Announce] [N9] GAuth for Google Authenticator users
Glad you fixed your email app. It should have been unrelated apart from if this was the first time you had set up the two factor authentication you will have needed to add an "application specific password" for your n9 email, talk, picasa, youtube, etc. But you only have to fix this once. Follow Google's instruvmctions here.
30 seconds is Google's required time interval for Authenticators |

Thanks for this, it works great.
I would love to see support for PayPal aswell, currently they send their security code to me via SMS, but having it integrated into this app (if possible) would be great, similar to VIP Access for Android. |

According to VeriSign you might try installing the Beta of PhoneME for N9 and download VIP Access for Java mobiles. |
