Getting rid of osso-* bloatware?
I'm not sure if osso-* packages and "pre-installed Nokia SSU stuff" is part of Nokia's proprietary apps. And I also wonder why it's there after installing the CSSU.
I want to get rid of just about all of them. I'm pretty sure a procedure like this could render Maemo unusable at the moment, but I really want to attempt it. I've backed up. I can find replacements for these apps later. So I want to get rid of at least the installers first, and then the games, and finally the other ones. Has anyone attempted do do this? Can anyone say what osso- packages "cannot" be removed? |

Check also http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=83411
and (perhaps more useful) http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=82641 Additional information (from you) is very welcome. PS: CSSU does not replace all Nokia stuff. It's just a bunch of updated/replacement packages [rand on] which happens to come all together in one pack, i.e. all or nothing.. unfortunately [rant off. if you want to discuss about this please on another thread]. |
Re: Getting rid of osso-* bloatware?
Would be nice to hear how things went with un-installing! I am planning to get rid of some things too.
Unfortunately there is no way to un-install MicroB with Browserd ... Hm, can software be un-installed without un-installing everything that depends on it? (Where is dependency information stored? Can it be modified offline?) I'd like to give it a try and see if texting and other things still work without browserd (it's using a lot of memory). |

In Android, whole friendly sites thrive because of people's desire to get rid of such detrius (assuming that detrius is really a word!).
