N9 - help to resolve some issues?

Hi, I've had an N9 for several months. Australia, no contract, Australian warranty, currently used with Telstra prepaid. It's been updated to 1.2. I did buy it used.

I'd really appreciate a pointer or two to help resolve these issues:

1. When receiving a text message, I get a notification. Several times. When I go to look at messages, the newly-received message is not tin the list. I close everything, and continue to receive more notifications. Yet none of them show up in the messages app.

2. Received phone calls sometimes show up as being received from a different person. Can you imagine your GF named say Sophie wanting to know why you receive so many calls all the time from your workmate named Eliza? It takes a while to explain. (I could have gotten a free phone out of that one, finally, but I persist with the N9 anyway.)

OK, those are the real problems. Everything else works great! I love this phone... except that the basic stuff doesn't work properly! Navigation - awesome. Email - no probs. Web - OK it's very slow, but it works. Music - sounds great, although I haven't figured out yet why I can use headphones but can't plug it into my car. Tethering - fantastic, no more silly USB sticks into my laptop.

But as a phone? It sucks. Making and receiving calls is great, but the simple ability to show who recent calls are actually from and a list of received text messages just doesn't work.

This can't be right. I have no problem with Unix or using a shell. But I don't know where to start with this device. Or if it's worth the time to do so.

a. Does it work properly for others here?
b. What do I need to do to make this one work right?

Any help appreciated... :)

Since you bought it used you never know what may/may not be present. My advice to you is flash to pr1.3 using the comprhensive flashing guide...Best is to flash with a PR_LEGACY 001...head over to the thread to learn whatever you need to do...

Once done, your phone should be spanking new and these irritants would not be present anymore...

Hi, thanks for the pointer. I followed the guide and went to http://www.btusers.com.ar/nan/nokia/. There are a lot of php errors there, and I wasn't able to get past "Check!". I'll try the Windows downloads tomorrow on a VM.

The Comprehensive Flashing Guide referred to can be found here:

When you search for things here, use Power Search, not the search at the top. Or use google.

Edit: Oops, he beat me.

Thanks guys, I went to that link and in the section "DOWNLOAD FIRMWARE (N9 SPECIFIC)" I go to the subsection "Any OS:" and click on the link labeled " Nokia Firmwares". Errors as noted above.

My phone seems to be already at the latest update. On the Settings -> About product, it says:

Nokia N9
MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan

Version
PR1.3
(40.2012.21-3_PR_005)

I'll try reflashing on Windows.
