Seeking advice/help with various N950 related hacks
Hello... allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Michael and I'm quite the experienced developer. I have experiences with both windows & linux platform development (windows being my strong spot). I've worked in C#, Java, IronPython, a few mark up languages and a bit of reverse engineering. Recently a Nokia N950 has been placed into my hands due to the destruction of my beloved blackberry 9700. Perhaps a blessing; this phone seems to be very limitless in its capabilities. I've seen threads about Arch Linux being ran on this bad boy and trust me that gets me excited. The app eco for MeeGo however is beyond poor, no disrespect to any developers who are associated with them that linger around here but this is a truth most of us can see eye to eye on. Whatsapp runs on almost all devices; I was startled to see that the developers there have not been bothered with developing a version for the N950. So this leads me to my questions. Given that I'm unfamiliar with the device and how it works. I like to seek advice (best way to go aint it?) along with reading various posts and articles. I've seen Ice Cream Sandwich being ran on the N9. Would you guys recommend this? Does the software utilize the hardware efficiently/effectively? Would my device be at risk if I were to load the OS on my device? How can this be done? (please provide links to articles. Also any alternative methods) Is anyone running Jelly Bean on the N950? (If this is stable provide information on how this can be done) One of the main reasons for me wanting to switch is because I NEED whatsapp. Coming from a blackberry the necessity to have contacts at instant is of high priority. Would changing to android be too much work just for whatsapp? Would I be better of just installing Wazapp? Is anyone running the official whatsapp client on n950? (I visited the website on my phone moments ago and it's actually allowing me to download the files now.. it didn't do that before). Well these are all the questions that are of importance to me right now. Hopefully you guys are quite friendly here and wouldn't mind sharing a bit of information with a fellow developer. Please feel free to share any other tweeks/hacks that you use or suggest any other alternatives! Looking forward to a lovely discussing with you guys :) Michael |

an experienced dev asking for advice on tweaks and dissing others instead of getting something done himself...LOL!!!

Re: Seeking advice/help with various N950 related hacks
please go back under the rock you came from... I'm not eager to help someone that tells me that my meego developers aren't good enough.....

Re: Seeking advice/help with various N950 related hacks
search search and search again and when you have finished searching get a Lumia and give the N950 to someone who has a brain

Re: Seeking advice/help with various N950 related hacks
I want to be nice and help, but in this case I can only suggest some basic basic search. Please search for wazapp and nitdroid etc and that's it.
If you even bothered to do this, just sell your N950 and it will be in a good price. |

2 There ARE some Genius developing whatsapp for Harmattan, how can you NOT aware of this?! 3 Ony ELOP talks about cr@ps like eco or whatever. I really want to be nice here, but I just can't help more. If you just read the recent threads you will get a better understanding of this. |
Re: Seeking advice/help with various N950 related hacks
I mean I always talk ******** and all my comments are lame complaints, but this... this.. no comment, you.. are an experienced developer who doesn't even know whether to install NITDroid or not? And.. what can I say, even noobs are okay with no WhatsApp for MeeGo, and, well, if you don't like it, go make friends with Elop! You will be perfect together.. I just.. have no.. comment.. to this anymore..

Re: Seeking advice/help with various N950 related hacks
Way to go, dear community! And you're surprised users and developers are fleeing this place.
To the OP: don't waste your time here, and on MeeGo. Documentation for development is chaotic and outdated at best, non-existant at worst. Most of the remainder of the community are rude, elitist pricks, as you can see. Not much of value is left here. |

Re: Seeking advice/help with various N950 related hacks
I think it was wrong choice for you to have n950 as main phone. My suggestion to get another cheap phone for calls/msging. And use N950 as devkit, anyway it has pixel syndrome disease :(
http://forum.nitdroid.com/ - Nitdroid forum (but no n950 real support, as dev didn't get one) Or you can use search on the forum here, as those topics were discussed hundred time, you can as well check wiki on this site or meego.com. Good luck. To all other people: I was rude on forum few times, but even when i rude or sarcastic, i'm trying to provide answer, but not just be rude. BE CALM. |
