Changing chip on N900 N9 or N950? (like upgrading the N950 to 64GB or upgrading ram on N900)
I was thinking, is it possible to change the capacity chip from the N9 to change a 16GB device into a 64GB by soldering it?
I don't know if the N950 uses the same chip as the N9, but if so, would it be possible to change N950 capacity chip with a N9 64GB chip? |
Re: Changing chips on N9 or N950?
From the early N950 (N9-00 Dali) prototype, there seems exist 64G N950 models, I guess they use the same memory chip with N9. So maybe it is possible.
Also this makes a red or blue N9 64GB possible... A bit risky though... :) |

I've got a soldering iron and I'm pretty handy with it. Do you think I could do this?

I know a couple guys who can do the job. I only need to know if they all use the same size/type chip. Maybe we can find and buy those from somewhere? |

The production involves heating up the whole circuit board including preplaced SMD. Exchange of single components afterwards has never been kept in mind during construction. The very least you need to have, is a special chip-tip that heats up all pins simultaneusly. |

not quite, at least not without good lab and good tools...

Re: Changing capacity chip on N9 or N950?
Changing /any/ SMD chip has already been discussed since N900 days, especially the eMMC and SoC.
tl;dr version of every single discussion on this already: It's possible, but incredibly impractical to do so unless a) You can obtain a single part for cheaps, and b) You have access to $$$$$$ tools to properly do the swap. You'd probably have to be a very bored EE to do this instead of buy something else. |

The only thing I need to know is just the name of the part and try to find it (doesn't matter if cheap or not) If we find it, I think many people will be happy to mod their N950's to gain more capacity... (I'm sure there are local repair guys who can change those chips for a few bucks :) ) |

Does anybody know which one is the right chip to replace on the N950?
